01 — Overview

What is Brick Breaker Blitz?

Brick Breaker Blitz is a free browser arcade game in which you slide a paddle along the bottom of a black screen, keep a white ball in play, and knock out a wall of fifty coloured bricks before your three lives run out. It is the plainest brick breaker in our collection, and that is the reason to play it.

There is no story, no map and no menu beyond a single START GAME button. The wall is five rows deep and ten bricks wide — red on top, then green, blue, yellow and magenta — and a line of text in the top-left corner tracks the only three numbers the game cares about: score, level and lives. Everything else on screen is the ball, the paddle and whatever is falling towards you.

What falls are power-up tokens. Break the right brick and a small square drops out of the wall, and Brick Breaker Blitz asks the oldest question in the genre: do you leave the ball to go and catch it? With only three lives and a ball that does not wait, that choice comes up every few seconds, and it is where most runs are won or thrown away.

A full game can be over in under a minute or stretch across several levels, which makes Brick Breaker Blitz an easy one to open between other things. It was added to the GamePix catalogue in 2025 and plays in a landscape 800×600 frame, so it sits comfortably on a laptop or a desktop monitor.

02 — How to play

How to play Brick Breaker Blitz

  1. 01

    Press START GAME

The title screen shows the name of the game and one red button. Press it and the wall appears with the ball already on its way, so have your pointer near the middle of the screen before you click.

  2. 02

Put the paddle under the ball

The paddle follows your pointer left and right along the bottom edge. Watch where the ball is heading rather than where it is, and be there early.

  3. 03

    Work up through the rows

The magenta row at the bottom of the wall is the first the ball can reach. Each brick disappears on one hit and adds ten points to the score in the corner.

  4. 04

    Decide on every token

Tokens fall straight down from broken bricks. Move under one to collect it, or let it go if reaching it would leave the ball unguarded.

  5. 05

    Protect your three lives

A ball that gets past the paddle costs one life, and the counter in the corner drops from three. Play resumes with a fresh ball until the counter reaches zero.

  6. 06

Clear the wall or start again

Remove all fifty bricks to move the level counter on. When the last life goes, a GAME OVER panel shows your final score above a PLAY AGAIN button.

Controls

On a desktop or laptop, Brick Breaker Blitz is played entirely with the mouse: move the pointer left or right and the paddle tracks it along the bottom of the screen. In our test session the arrow keys did not move the paddle, so treat this as a pointer game. On a phone or tablet the pointer becomes your finger — slide it across the lower part of the screen to steer. There is nothing to press during play; START GAME and PLAY AGAIN are the only buttons in the whole game.

Objective

Clear every brick in the wall while keeping at least one of your three lives. Score is simply a count of bricks broken, ten points apiece, so a fully cleared first wall is worth five hundred. Good play in Brick Breaker Blitz is unglamorous: keep the paddle under the ball, take the tokens that fall near you, and never trade a life for a pickup.

Game modes & features

Brick Breaker Blitz has one mode. The heads-up display reads Score, Level and Lives, and the wall is a fixed grid of five colour-coded rows. Three kinds of token were seen falling in our session: a yellow square marked with a double-headed arrow, a green square marked with a plus sign, and a magenta square marked with a lightning bolt. The icons follow genre convention, and catching each one is the quickest way to learn what it does in this build.

Why play Brick Breaker Blitz?

Choose it when you want the paddle game with nothing attached. Most modern brick breakers wrap the loop in currencies, level maps and daily rewards; Brick Breaker Blitz gives you a wall, a ball and three chances. That makes it the quickest way on this site to find out how good your paddle work actually is, and a useful warm-up before the busier games in the same family.

03 — Tips & strategy

Brick Breaker Blitz tips

Beginner

Park the pointer before you start

The ball is moving the instant the wall appears. Click START GAME with the pointer already sitting low and central so the paddle is in position for the first return.

Count lives, not points

Every brick is worth the same ten points, so there is no bonus for risky shots. The number that decides how far you get is the lives counter. Play each ball as if it were the last one.

Let distant tokens fall

A token on the far side of the screen is a trap when the ball is coming down on this side. Take what lands within a short slide of the paddle and ignore the rest.

Keep your eyes below the wall

The bricks will look after themselves once the ball is among them. Your job happens in the bottom third of the screen, so watch the ball on its way down, not on its way up.

Advanced

Open a lane up one side

Aim repeated returns at the same two or three columns near an edge. Once a gap reaches the red row, the ball can get above the wall and bounce between the ceiling and the bricks, clearing them without any help from you.

Test the paddle ends early

In most brick breakers a ball that meets the end of the paddle leaves at a shallower angle than one that meets the middle. Spend your first few returns finding out how strongly Brick Breaker Blitz does this, then use it to steer towards the column you are working on.

Catch tokens on the return trip

A token and the ball rarely arrive together. Return the ball first, then slide across for the token while the ball is still up in the wall. You have longer than it feels.

Finish the stragglers from underneath

The last few bricks of a wall are the slow part. Position the paddle directly below a lone brick and meet the ball on the centre so it climbs steeply, rather than hoping a wide bounce finds it.

04 — Highlights

What makes Brick Breaker Blitz special

The strength of Brick Breaker Blitz is that nothing in it is hidden. The rules fit in one sentence, the score is arithmetic you can do in your head, and a lost life is always your own misjudgement. Games this bare are rare now, and playing one is a reminder of how much of the genre's appeal was there from the very first version.

It also makes a good yardstick. Because every brick is worth ten points and every wall holds fifty bricks, two runs are directly comparable: a score of 170 means seventeen bricks, and tomorrow's 240 is a real improvement rather than a lucky multiplier. Players who like to measure themselves will get more out of Brick Breaker Blitz than its plain looks suggest.

On this site it sits at the simple end of a long shelf. The classic Brick Breaker on our home page and Block Breaker add more varied layouts, Brick Breaker Retro dresses the same loop in arcade colours, and Brick Breaker Endless throws the paddle away altogether in favour of a ball cannon. Start here, then move along.

06 — FAQ

Brick Breaker Blitz FAQ

QHow many lives do you get in Brick Breaker Blitz?

Three. The count is shown in the top-left corner next to your score and level, and it drops by one each time the ball passes the paddle. When it reaches zero a GAME OVER panel appears with your final score and a PLAY AGAIN button.

QHow many bricks are in a Brick Breaker Blitz level?

The first wall holds fifty bricks, arranged in five rows of ten. The rows are colour-coded from top to bottom: red, green, blue, yellow and magenta. Each brick breaks on a single hit, so clearing the wall takes exactly fifty brick contacts.

QHow is the score worked out in Brick Breaker Blitz?

Each brick adds ten points, whatever its colour or row. In our session ten broken bricks showed a score of 100 and seventeen showed 170. A completely cleared first wall is therefore worth 500 points before the level counter moves on.

QHow do you control the paddle in Brick Breaker Blitz?

Move the mouse pointer left and right and the paddle follows it along the bottom of the screen. The arrow keys did not move the paddle when we tested them. On a touchscreen, slide a finger across the lower part of the play area instead.

QWhat do the falling squares do in Brick Breaker Blitz?

They are power-up tokens released by broken bricks. We saw three designs: yellow with a double-headed arrow, green with a plus sign, and magenta with a lightning bolt. Catch one on the paddle to trigger it; a token that reaches the bottom uncaught is simply lost.

QIs Brick Breaker Blitz the same as Atari Breakout?

No, but it is built on the same plan. Atari released Breakout in 1976 with eight coloured rows of bricks and three turns per game. Brick Breaker Blitz keeps the striped wall and the three lives, uses five rows instead of eight, and adds falling power-up tokens.

QIs Brick Breaker Blitz a landscape or portrait game?

Landscape. The game is built for an 800×600 frame, wider than it is tall, which suits a laptop or desktop screen. On a phone it is easier to play with the device turned sideways so the wall has room to spread out.

QWhat games are similar to Brick Breaker Blitz?

Simply Breakout and Brick Breaker Retro are the closest matches for a straightforward paddle-and-wall game. The classic Brick Breaker on our home page offers more varied layouts, and Neon Brick Breaker plays the same way with a glowing arcade look.
