01 โ€” Overview

What is Snake Brawl?

Snake Brawl is a free browser arcade game in which you steer a column of yellow balls through rows of numbered blocks, picking up loose balls to grow and choosing the gaps and blocks you can afford to pass.

The screen is a purple field with your snake near the bottom. The snake is drawn as a stack of yellow balls with its length printed above the head, and in our session that number read 4. Ahead lie rows of green-topped blocks, each carrying a number: we saw values of 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 10 and 13. Short vertical walls split the screen into lanes, small numbered balls lie between them, and the score sits in the top-right corner.

Snake Brawl is played with one gesture. A horizontal drag moves the snake from side to side, and the title screen asks you to tap to start. Our runs ended quickly, with the end screen reporting a High Score of 7 on one attempt and 4 on another, and offering two choices: revive or skip. Skip returns you to the title.

Snake Brawl has been in the GamePix catalogue since December 2020 and plays in a portrait 600ร—800 frame. The catalogue listing describes descending mazes, balls that make you grow and blocky traps that shrink you. That is the format Voodoo made famous with Snake VS Block in 2017, and Snake Brawl is an independent take on it with lane walls of its own.

02 โ€” How to play

How to play Snake Brawl

  1. 01

    Tap to start

The title screen shows SNAKE BRAWL, a single yellow ball and the prompt tap to start. One tap or click begins the run.

  2. 02

    Drag sideways to steer

Hold and drag left or right to move the snake across the lanes. Snake Brawl needs nothing else from you: no buttons, no keys.

  3. 03

    Read the numbers

Every block shows a number and your own length is printed above the head. Compare them before you choose where to go.

  4. 04

    Collect the loose balls

Small numbered balls lie between the blocks. The catalogue listing says these are what make the snake grow.

  5. 05

Pick your path through each row

Aim for gaps, or for the block whose number you can best afford. The listing warns that the blocks are traps that shrink you.

  6. 06

    Revive or skip

When the run ends you see your High Score with two options. Revive keeps Snake Brawl going; skip takes you back to the title screen.

Controls

Snake Brawl is a one-gesture game. Drag horizontally to steer: in our desktop session, holding the mouse button and moving left or right carried the snake across the lanes. The start is a single tap or click on the title screen. There are no keyboard controls that we found and none were needed. The portrait layout and drag control are built for a touch screen, though we only tested in a desktop browser.

Objective

Get as far as you can and set a high score. The snake's length, shown above the head, is your resource: the catalogue listing says the loose balls add to it and the numbered blocks take from it. We did not see the exact change when the snake struck a block, so treat each number as a cost until you have watched it happen. A run ends when the snake can go no further, and the end screen shows your High Score.

Game modes & features

There is one endless run, started from the title screen. Snake Brawl's screen is built from a few clear parts: rows of green-topped numbered blocks, short vertical walls that divide the lanes, small numbered balls to collect and a running score in the corner. The end screen offers revive and skip, and the title has a round button with a snake icon that we did not open. There are no levels or menus beyond that in what we saw.

Why play Snake Brawl?

Play Snake Brawl for quick decisions. Every row asks the same question in a new form, gap or block, and the numbers make the stakes visible before you commit. Runs are short, so a bad choice costs seconds rather than minutes and the restart is immediate. It is also the snake game on this site that sits closest to brick breaking, with a wall of numbered blocks in place of food.

03 โ€” Tips & strategy

Snake Brawl tips

Beginner

Grab balls before blocks

Collect the loose balls in your lane before you reach the next row. A longer snake gives you more room to absorb a costly block.

Look for the smallest number

When no gap is open, steer for the lowest-numbered block in reach. In Snake Brawl a 1 is a far safer choice than a 13.

Line up early

The short vertical walls divide the lanes. In Snake Brawl, move into the lane you want before the walls arrive, not as they pass.

Expect short first runs

Our first attempts scored 7 and 4. Treat the opening runs as practice for reading the numbers at speed.

Advanced

Keep a length buffer

Do not let the snake shrink to its last few balls. Pass up a risky block if a cheaper route exists, even if it means a detour.

Compare length with each row

The number above the head is your budget. Before every row, check which blocks it can cover and which would end the run.

Steer in small drags

Short drags move the snake one lane at a time. Wide sweeping drags overshoot and pull you into blocks you meant to avoid.

Decide on revive in advance

Know before the run ends whether you will revive or skip, so the end screen does not cost you thinking time.

04 โ€” Highlights

What makes Snake Brawl special

Snake Brawl turns the snake's length into currency. In a classic snake game growing is the reward and also the danger; here growth is something you spend, and every row of numbered blocks is a price list. That small change makes each second of a run a decision.

The screen is easy to read at a glance. Yellow balls stand out against the purple background, the green-topped blocks show their numbers in large figures, and your own length hovers above the head, so the comparison you need is always in view. Snake Brawl runs are short and the restart is a tap away.

Its closest relative on this site is Brick Breaker Endless, whose numbered bricks ask you to wear down a wall with balls from a launcher; Snake Brawl gives you the numbered wall and makes you the ball. Snake 2048.io is the other numbers-based snake in our collection, and Snake Simple Retro Game is the classic version with food instead of blocks.

06 โ€” FAQ

Snake Brawl FAQ

QWhat do the numbers on the blocks mean in Snake Brawl?

Each green-topped block carries a value, and your own length is printed above the head. The catalogue listing describes the blocks as traps that shrink you. We did not see the exact change on impact, so read every number as a cost and compare it with your length first.

QWhat is the revive option in Snake Brawl?

It is one of two choices on the end screen, shown under your High Score. Revive continues the run; skip returns you to the title, where a tap starts again. We chose skip in our session, so we cannot say what revive asks of you.

QWhat scores did you get in Snake Brawl?

Our first runs were short, ending on a High Score of 7 and then 4. Runs end quickly while you learn to read the rows, so do not be discouraged by low early numbers. The score sits in the top-right corner during play.

QHow do you steer in Snake Brawl?

Drag horizontally. Hold the mouse button or your finger down and move left or right, and the snake follows across the lanes. A single tap or click on the title screen starts the run. No keys or buttons are needed during play.

QHow do you grow the snake in Snake Brawl?

Collect the small numbered balls that lie between the rows. The catalogue listing says bashing balls makes you grow. Take them early, before the next row of blocks arrives, so the extra length is there when you need to pay for a block.

QIs Snake Brawl the same as Snake VS Block?

No. Snake Brawl is an independent game that borrows the format. Voodoo published Snake VS Block in May 2017, according to its VGTimes release listing. Snake Brawl uses a similar chain of balls and numbered blocks, with its own lane walls, purple look and revive screen.

QCan you play Snake Brawl on a phone?

It is designed for touch. The frame is portrait, 600ร—800, the title screen says tap to start and steering is a single drag. We played in a desktop browser with a mouse, so the phone experience is the layout talking rather than a test we ran.

QWhat games are similar to Snake Brawl?

Brick Breaker Endless shares the numbered bricks, approached from a ball launcher instead of a snake. Snake 2048.io is another numbers-based snake, and Snake Simple Retro Game is the classic version. Worms Zone and Gusano.io are arena snake games with rivals.
