What is Fantasy Star Pinball?
Fantasy Star Pinball is a free browser pinball game played on a single fairy-tale table: you launch a ball up the left-hand lane, keep it alive with two pink flippers, and score by sending it into gem bumpers, heart targets and a rainbow ramp that curls around a castle. It is one table, drawn with care, and built for a phone held upright.
The title screen shows a princess and her prince under a rainbow, with a play button and a question-mark button beside it. That second button is worth a press. It opens a one-screen rules card that lays out the entire control scheme with four arrows: down to launch the ball, left and right for the flippers, and up to tilt the table.
Once the ball is away, Fantasy Star Pinball does something many browser tables do not: the camera follows it. The view pushes in on the upper half of the table when the ball is among the bumpers and pulls back as it drops towards the flippers, so the table feels larger than the 600Ã800 frame it lives in.
The game has been in the GamePix catalogue since 2015, which makes it one of the oldest titles on this site, and it still plays cleanly. A ball can last ten seconds or several minutes, and the score in the top-left corner climbs quickly enough that there is always a reason for one more launch.
How to play Fantasy Star Pinball
- 01
Open the rules card
On the title screen, press the question-mark button next to play. The card shows the four arrows and what each one does, then offers its own play button to start.
- 02
Launch the ball
The ball waits on a spring at the bottom of the lane on the left edge of the table. Press Down on a keyboard, or swipe down on a touchscreen, to fire it up the rail.
- 03
Work the flippers
Two pink flippers sit above the golden gates at the bottom. Press Left or Right, or swipe to that side, to swing the matching flipper and send the ball back up the table.
- 04
Hit the gem bumpers
Round bumpers topped with blue, purple, red and green gems cluster in the upper half. Each contact adds to the score, and a ball caught between them racks up points quickly.
- 05
Aim for the hearts and the ramp
Three heart targets sit at the very top of the table, and a rainbow ramp sweeps down the right-hand side. Both need a clean shot from the flippers to reach.
- 06
Tilt when you must
Press Up, or swipe up, to nudge the table. Use it to shake a ball away from the gap between the flippers when a flip alone will not save it.
Controls
Fantasy Star Pinball shows its controls as four arrows. On desktop these are the arrow keys: Down launches the ball, Left and Right work the two flippers, and Up tilts the table. On a phone or tablet the same four directions are swipes â down to launch, sideways for the flippers, up to tilt. A gear button in the top-right corner opens the settings during play, and the question-mark button on the title screen brings the rules card back whenever you need it.
Objective
Score as many points as you can before your last ball drains between the flippers. The counter in the top-left corner starts at zero beside a star showing the current multiplier, x1 at the start of a game. In our session a single launch took the score to 100 and then 249 within a few seconds, so the early points come easily; the skill in Fantasy Star Pinball is keeping the ball up the table long enough to build on them.
Game modes & features
Fantasy Star Pinball has one table and no mode select. Its features are a spring-loaded launch lane on the left, a railway-style track that loops over the top, four gem bumpers, a row of three hearts, a rainbow ramp, a castle at the centre and a pair of golden gates guarding the drain. The heads-up display shows a star multiplier, the score and a row of small ball markers. The catalogue listing mentions hidden scenarios to discover; we did not trigger one in a short session.
Why play Fantasy Star Pinball?
Play it for a proper flipper table that respects a small screen. The portrait layout means the whole lower table fits on a phone without scrolling, the four-direction control scheme works as well with a thumb as with a keyboard, and the camera gives the upper table room to breathe. Fantasy Star Pinball is also gentle in tone, which makes it an easy one to hand to a younger player.
Fantasy Star Pinball tips
Read the rules card once
The question-mark button takes five seconds and tells you everything: down, left, right, up. It is quicker than working the four directions out by trial and error.
Flip one side at a time
Swinging both flippers together opens a gap between them at the top of the swing. Use only the flipper the ball is coming to and leave the other one down.
Let the ball come to you
A flip made too early sends the ball off the base of the flipper with no power. Wait until the ball is halfway along the flipper before you press.
Watch the lower table when the camera moves
The view follows the ball upwards, then drops back. Keep your thumbs ready while it is away, because the ball returns faster than the camera suggests.
Shoot from the tip for the ramp
The rainbow ramp is on the right, so it is a shot for the left flipper, taken late, near the tip. A ball struck early from the same flipper goes to the opposite side instead.
Keep the ball among the gems
The bumpers bounce the ball between themselves with no help from you. A shot that lands it in the middle of the cluster is worth more than any single target.
Save the tilt for the centre drain
A ball dropping straight down the middle is beyond both flippers. That is the moment for an upward nudge, to knock it sideways onto one of them.
Build on the multiplier
The star beside the score shows the current multiplier. When it rises above x1, every bumper and target is worth more, so that is the time to play safe and keep the ball in play rather than chase a risky shot.
What makes Fantasy Star Pinball special
What stands out about Fantasy Star Pinball is how much table it fits into a portrait frame. The rail that loops over the top, the ramp on the right and the castle in the middle are all layered so that the ball has three or four distinct routes, and the moving camera means none of them feels cramped.
The art in Fantasy Star Pinball carries the theme without getting in the way. Hearts, gems, rainbows and a pink castle could easily have become clutter, but the playing surface stays readable, the ball is easy to follow against the blue sky background, and the flippers are large enough to aim with.
Pinball sits next to the brick breakers on this site for a good reason: both are about keeping one ball alive with a bat at the bottom of the screen. The classic Brick Breaker on our home page gives you a sliding paddle and a wall; Fantasy Star Pinball gives you two pivoting flippers and a table. 3D Pinball Space Cadet is the desktop-era counterpart, and Pinball Legends takes the same idea to the beach.

Fantasy Star Pinball FAQ
QWhat are the controls in Fantasy Star Pinball?
Four directions. Down launches the ball from the spring, Left and Right swing the two flippers, and Up tilts the table. On a keyboard these are the arrow keys; on a touchscreen they are swipes. The rules card behind the question-mark button on the title screen shows all four.
QHow many tables does Fantasy Star Pinball have?
We saw one. The game goes straight from the title screen to a single castle-themed table with no table select. The catalogue listing talks about hidden scenarios to unlock through play, but it does not describe additional tables.
QWhen was Fantasy Star Pinball released?
It was published to the GamePix catalogue in 2015, which makes it one of the longest-running games on this site. It is an HTML5 game that runs in the browser on both desktop and mobile devices.
QHow do you launch the ball in Fantasy Star Pinball?
Press the Down arrow key, or swipe down on a touchscreen. The ball sits on a spring at the bottom of a narrow lane on the left side of the table and is fired up a rail that carries it over the top and into play.
QHow do you tilt the table in Fantasy Star Pinball?
Press the Up arrow key or swipe up. The rules card lists this as the fourth control alongside launching and the two flippers. Use it sparingly, to shift a ball that is heading for the gap between the flippers.
QWhen were flippers added to pinball?
In 1947. Gottlieb introduced player-controlled flippers on a machine called Humpty Dumpty. Before that, from the coin-operated boom of 1931 onwards, players could only launch the ball and nudge the cabinet. Fantasy Star Pinball uses the two-flipper layout that became standard afterwards.
QIs Fantasy Star Pinball a portrait game?
Yes. It is built at 600Ã800, taller than it is wide, which is the natural shape for a pinball table and for a phone held upright. On a desktop monitor the table sits in the centre of the frame with space at either side.
QWhat games are similar to Fantasy Star Pinball?
3D Pinball Space Cadet is the well-known desktop table with missions and ranks, and Pinball Legends is another portrait table with a beach theme. For the same keep-the-ball-alive skill with a paddle, try the classic Brick Breaker on our home page.
