01 — Overview

What is Pinball Legends?

Pinball Legends is a free browser pinball game set on a single beach-themed table: you launch a ball up a lane on the right, keep it in play with the flippers at the bottom, and score by hitting numbered bumpers, starfish targets and a shark that lurks where the sand meets the sea. It is a bright, simple table that tells you its controls before you have pressed anything.

The title screen is a strip of beach with the logo at the top and two surfboard-shaped buttons, Play and a sound toggle. Press Play and the game makes you an offer — watch an ad for an extra ball, with a YES and a SKIP — and then the table appears. A purple banner across the lower half carries the full instructions: hold SPACE to start, use the arrows to play.

The Pinball Legends table is easy to read. The upper half is sand, with three red starfish in a row along the top, a larger star target marked 100 and a pair of green bars. The lower half is surf, where round bumpers marked 25, 50 and 100 sit in the shallows. A striped lane curves down the right-hand side, a channel lined with scallop shells runs down the left, and a magnet and a shark wait near the edges.

Pinball Legends was added to the GamePix catalogue in July 2024 and is built for a 600×800 portrait screen. A ball counter in the top-right corner and a score window above the flippers are the only readouts, which keeps your attention where it belongs, on the ball.

02 — How to play

How to play Pinball Legends

  1. 01

    Press Play and choose

After Play, the game asks whether you want to watch an ad for an extra ball. Pick YES or SKIP; either way the table loads next.

  2. 02

    Hold SPACE to launch

The ball rests in the lane on the far right. Hold the space bar to charge the launch and release it to send the ball up the lane towards the striped curve.

  3. 03

    Flip with the arrow keys

The banner says to use the arrows to play. The Left and Right arrow keys work the flippers at the bottom of the table.

  4. 04

    Aim for the numbered bumpers

Three round bumpers in the water are marked with their value: 25, 50 and 100. The red 100 bumper sits lowest and nearest the flippers.

  5. 05

    Shoot the starfish

A row of three red starfish lines the top of the table and a bigger star below them is marked 100. They need a firm shot from the flippers to reach.

  6. 06

    Watch the ball counter

The box in the top-right corner shows a ball icon and a number. Your score appears in the window above the flippers, starting from zero.

Controls

Pinball Legends prints its controls on the table: Hold SPACE to Start, Use ARROWS to Play. On a keyboard, the space bar launches the ball and the Left and Right arrow keys swing the flippers. The Play and sound buttons on the title screen, and the YES and SKIP buttons on the extra-ball offer, are clicked or tapped. The on-table instructions mention keys only, so a desktop or laptop is the safe choice; we did not test touch play on a phone.

Objective

Score as many points as you can before you run out of balls. Points come from the bumpers, which show their value on their faces, and from the star targets at the top of the table. The quickest scoring in Pinball Legends comes from keeping the ball in the lower half, where the 25, 50 and 100 bumpers sit close enough together to pass it between them.

Game modes & features

Pinball Legends has one table and one mode. The table's features are a launch lane on the right, a rainbow-striped curved lane above it, a shell-lined channel on the left, three starfish and a 100-point star target on the sand, numbered bumpers in the surf, a magnet on the right-hand side, and a shark at the waterline. An optional rewarded ad before the game offers an extra ball. The catalogue listing describes beach-ball bumpers, sea creatures and a tropical soundtrack.

Why play Pinball Legends?

Play it for an uncomplicated table you can understand in one look. Pinball Legends does not ask you to learn missions or modes; the bumpers tell you what they are worth and the banner tells you which keys to press. That makes it a good first pinball game, and a relaxing one for anyone who finds the denser tables hard work.

03 — Tips & strategy

Pinball Legends tips

Beginner

Read the banner before you launch

Hold SPACE to start, arrows to play. Put one hand on the space bar and the other on the arrow keys before the ball leaves the lane.

Skip the ad if you just want to play

The extra-ball offer is optional. SKIP takes you straight to the table with the standard number of balls.

Use one flipper at a time

Pressing both arrow keys together opens a gap in the middle. Swing only the flipper the ball is heading for.

Wait for the ball to reach the flipper

Flipping too soon gives a weak return. Let the ball roll partway down the flipper before you press the key.

Advanced

Work the 100 bumper

The red bumper marked 100 is the most valuable of the three in the surf and also the closest to the flippers. A controlled flip that sends the ball back into it repeatedly builds a score quickly.

Vary the launch

How long you hold the space bar should change how far the ball travels around the striped lane. Try a short hold and a long one to see where each drops the ball onto the table.

Shoot the starfish from the opposite flipper

Targets at the top of the table are reached by a late flip, near the tip of the flipper, that sends the ball up the side it came from. Use that for the row of three starfish.

Mind the outer channels

The shell-lined channel on the left and the lane on the right both lead down the sides of the table. A ball heading that way is about to leave the central play area, so be ready at the flippers.

04 — Highlights

What makes Pinball Legends special

Pinball Legends is a friendly table. The beach setting is drawn in warm, flat colours, the playfield is uncluttered, and every scoring feature is labelled or obvious. Players who find a traditional table overwhelming will be able to see, at a glance, what is worth hitting here.

Pinball Legends is also clear about how to play. Printing the controls on the table itself, in a banner you cannot miss, is a small courtesy that many browser pinball games forget. There is no guessing which key launches the ball.

Pinball belongs on a site about brick breakers because the central skill is shared: keep one ball alive from the bottom of the screen and send it where it will do most good. The classic Brick Breaker on our home page gives you a sliding paddle for the job; Pinball Legends gives you flippers. For a table with missions and ranks there is 3D Pinball Space Cadet, and Fantasy Star Pinball is another portrait table with a following camera.

06 — FAQ

Pinball Legends FAQ

QWhat are the controls in Pinball Legends?

Hold the space bar to launch the ball and use the Left and Right arrow keys for the flippers. The game shows this on the table in a banner that reads Hold SPACE to Start, Use ARROWS to Play. Menu buttons are clicked or tapped.

QWhat are the bumpers worth in Pinball Legends?

Their values are printed on them. The three round bumpers in the lower half of the table are marked 25, 50 and 100, and a star-shaped target on the sand is also marked 100. The red 100 bumper is the one nearest the flippers.

QHow do you get an extra ball in Pinball Legends?

After you press Play, the game asks Watch ad for Extra Ball? with a YES button and a SKIP button. Choosing YES plays a rewarded ad in exchange for the extra ball. Choosing SKIP starts the game without it.

QWhen was Pinball Legends released?

It was published to the GamePix catalogue in July 2024. It is an HTML5 game built for a 600×800 portrait screen and runs in the browser without a download.

QHow do you launch the ball in Pinball Legends?

Hold the space bar and let go. The ball starts in a lane on the far right of the table, below a striped, curved lane that leads round the top. The on-table banner gives the instruction as Hold SPACE to Start.

QWhen did pinball machines first have flippers?

In 1947, when Gottlieb released Humpty Dumpty, the first machine with player-controlled flippers. Coin-operated pinball had been popular since Baffle Ball in 1931, but for those sixteen years players could only launch the ball and nudge the cabinet.

QIs Pinball Legends a portrait game?

Yes. It is built at 600×800, taller than it is wide, which is the natural proportion of a pinball table. On a desktop the table sits in the centre of the player with dark space at each side.

QWhat games are similar to Pinball Legends?

Fantasy Star Pinball is another single portrait table, with a fairy-tale theme and a camera that follows the ball. 3D Pinball Space Cadet is the classic desktop table with missions. For a paddle in place of flippers, try the classic Brick Breaker on our home page.
