01 โ€” Overview

What is Ball Burst?

Ball Burst is a free browser puzzle game in which you fire coloured balls from a launcher at the bottom of the screen into a hand-built arrangement above, and clear it by matching each ball with two others of the same colour. It uses the rules of a bubble shooter but swaps the usual solid ceiling of bubbles for seven designed layouts, each with its own shape and its own trick.

The title screen is two buttons on a brown background: Levels and How to Play? A small v3.0 in the corner and a clipboard icon are the only other things on it. The How to Play screen is worth thirty seconds, because it gives you the whole game in two short paragraphs โ€” tap where you want to fire the ball to, and clear all of the balls in the level by matching them with two others of the same colour.

The level menu is called Classic Set and shows a thumbnail of each puzzle. They are named Tutorial, Flowers, Rainbow, Double Trouble, Dead Ball, Bouncer and The Final Straw, and Bouncer is labelled HARD in red. Because you can see the shape of every layout before you start, Ball Burst feels less like an endless arcade game and more like a small book of puzzles.

It was added to the GamePix catalogue in December 2025, which makes it the newest game in our bubble shooter group, and it is built for a 600ร—800 portrait screen. The presentation is plain โ€” flat-coloured balls on a dark background โ€” and the interest is all in the layouts.

02 โ€” How to play

How to play Ball Burst

  1. 01

    Read How to Play

From the title screen, press How to Play? for the two-paragraph rules. The home button in the corner takes you back.

  2. 02

Open Levels and start with Tutorial

Press Levels to see the Classic Set. Tutorial is the first thumbnail, a cluster of green, yellow and purple balls.

  3. 03

Tap where you want the ball to go

The loaded ball sits in a ring at the bottom of the screen. Tap or click a point above it and the ball is fired towards that point.

  4. 04

    Match with two others

A ball that ends up with two or more of its own colour clears them. In the Tutorial, one purple shot removed the whole purple section at once.

  5. 05

    Use the bounces

The rules say a ball can bounce off the sides, off light boxes, and off the top on certain levels. Use those rebounds to reach colours that a direct shot cannot.

  6. 06

    Clear every ball

A level is finished when nothing is left. Press the home button to return to the menu and choose the next layout.

Controls

Ball Burst has one control: tap where you want to fire the ball to. On desktop that is a mouse click, on a phone or tablet a touch. There is no dragging, no keyboard input and no aiming line. A round home button appears in the corner of the rules screen, the level menu and each level, and takes you back out.

Objective

The rules screen states it directly: clear all of the balls in the level by matching them with two others of the same colour. It adds a hint about the better way to play โ€” if you get it all right, you can take down different colours at the same time. In other words, Ball Burst rewards shots that remove one colour and bring another down with it.

Game modes & features

There is one set of levels, the Classic Set, with seven layouts: Tutorial, Flowers, Rainbow, Double Trouble, Dead Ball, Bouncer (marked HARD) and The Final Straw. The thumbnails show that later layouts include extra elements such as pale square blocks and, in Bouncer, tall side rails. The rules mention light boxes that balls bounce off, and levels where the top is a bouncing surface too. The title screen shows the version number, v3.0.

Why play Ball Burst?

Play it if you prefer a puzzle with an answer to an arcade game with a score. Each Ball Burst layout is a fixed shape that can be studied before the first shot, and the named levels give you a clear sense of progress: seven puzzles, one of them flagged as hard, and a last one called The Final Straw. It is a short game, and a thoughtful one.

03 โ€” Tips & strategy

Ball Burst tips

Beginner

Do the Tutorial properly

The Tutorial layout is three colours in clear sections. Use it to learn how far a tap sends the ball and what a full-section clear looks like before trying Flowers.

Tap the target, not the launcher

The ball goes to where you tap. Put your tap on the group you want to join, on the side of it that faces the launcher.

Match the loaded colour

Check the colour of the ball in the ring before you look at the layout. Then find that colour above and ignore everything else for this shot.

Study the thumbnail first

Every level shows its shape in the menu. Looking at where each colour sits before you start saves shots once you are inside.

Advanced

Look for the two-colour shot

The rules promise that you can take down different colours at the same time. That happens when the colour you clear was holding another one up, so go for the colour in the middle of the structure.

Use the side walls deliberately

Balls bounce off the sides. A tap close to a wall sends the ball in at a steep angle after the rebound, which reaches the far side of a layout.

Learn which levels have a bouncing top

The rules say the ball bounces off the top only on certain levels. Test it early in each new layout with a shot you can afford, so you know whether a ceiling rebound is available.

Save Bouncer for last

Bouncer is the only level marked HARD. Work through the other layouts first so that wall and box rebounds are second nature before you try it.

04 โ€” Highlights

What makes Ball Burst special

The best thing about Ball Burst is that its levels have been designed. A standard bubble shooter fills the screen with a random or repeating pattern; here the Tutorial is a bunch-of-grapes shape in three colours, Flowers is a rounded, many-coloured cluster, and Rainbow is a block of diagonal stripes. The shapes are not decoration โ€” they decide which colour is holding which, and so which shot is the right one.

It is also refreshingly brief and honest about it. Seven named levels, a difficulty warning on one of them, and rules that fit on a single screen. There is no map to grind through and no booster shop, and a player who enjoys it can see every layout in one sitting.

Aim-and-rebound games are the common thread of this site. The classic Brick Breaker on our home page asks you to steer a ball into a wall of bricks off a paddle; Ball Burst asks you to fire one into a shaped cluster off the walls. For a traditional full-board version of the same idea, try Bubble Shooter HD, or Bubble Shooter POP if you want an aiming line to show the rebound.

06 โ€” FAQ

Ball Burst FAQ

QHow many levels does Ball Burst have?

Seven in the level menu, which is titled Classic Set. They are Tutorial, Flowers, Rainbow, Double Trouble, Dead Ball, Bouncer and The Final Straw. Bouncer is labelled HARD in red. Each is shown as a thumbnail so you can see its shape before you start.

QHow do you shoot in Ball Burst?

Tap or click where you want the ball to go. The How to Play screen puts it in those words: tap where you want to fire the ball to. The loaded ball sits in a ring at the bottom of the screen, and there is no aiming line or drag control.

QWhat can the ball bounce off in Ball Burst?

According to the rules screen, it can bounce off light boxes and the sides, and can bounce off the top on certain levels. That makes the side walls available everywhere, while a rebound from the ceiling depends on the layout you are playing.

QWhen was Ball Burst released?

It was published to the GamePix catalogue on 16 December 2025, which makes it the most recent of the bubble shooter games on this site. The title screen of the build we played shows version 3.0.

QHow do you clear more than one colour at once in Ball Burst?

Clear the colour that the others are attached to. The rules say that if you get it right you can take down different colours at the same time, which happens when removing one group leaves another with nothing to hang from.

QIs Ball Burst a bubble shooter?

Yes, in its rules. GamePix lists it in the bubble shooter category, and it uses the fire-upwards, bounce-off-the-sides, match-three design that Taito introduced with Puzzle Bobble in 1994. It differs in using a small set of fixed, named layouts.

QIs Ball Burst a portrait game?

Yes. It is built at 600ร—800, taller than it is wide, with the layout at the top and the launcher ring at the bottom. It fits a phone held upright, and appears as a centred column on a desktop screen.

QWhat games are similar to Ball Burst?

Bubble Shooter HD and Bubble Shooter Blast Master are level-based shooters with full boards, and Bubble Shooter POP adds an aiming line and scoring bins. For a different kind of matching, Sticky Balls has you tap linked chains against a countdown.
