01 โ€” Overview

What is Sticky Balls - Match 3 Bubble Shooter?

Sticky Balls - Match 3 Bubble Shooter is a free browser puzzle game in which a tall column of coloured balls scrolls past, some of them joined to their neighbours by short sticks, and you tap a linked chain to pop it and score before a countdown runs out. It carries bubble shooter in its full name, but there is no launcher and nothing to aim: Sticky Balls is a tap-to-pop game played against the clock.

The title screen shows the name, your best score, a blue PLAY button and a round button with a bar-chart icon that opens the leaderboard. A speaker toggles sound in one corner and a flag in the other changes the language. Press PLAY and the column appears: red, green, orange and blue balls packed five across, with a Score box on the left of the screen and a Time box on the right.

The sticks are the whole game. Neighbouring balls of the same colour are joined by a short stick in that colour, so the chains are visible before you touch anything. Tap a chain and it goes. The column closes up, new balls arrive, and new chains form. In our session the clock was already in the mid-nineties when the first screenshot was taken and fell steadily from there.

A few balls carry icons โ€” a clock with a plus sign, or a dial with a padlock. Sticky Balls was added to the GamePix catalogue in September 2024 and is built for a 600ร—800 portrait screen. It is a quick game by design, and one run rarely takes much more than a minute and a half.

02 โ€” How to play

How to play Sticky Balls - Match 3 Bubble Shooter

  1. 01

    Press PLAY

The blue button on the title screen starts a run. The Score box begins at zero and the Time box begins counting down at once.

  2. 02

    Look for the sticks

Balls of the same colour that touch are joined by a stick. Follow the sticks with your eye to see how long each chain is.

  3. 03

    Tap a chain

Click or tap any ball in a linked chain and the whole chain pops. Our first tap on a green chain took the score from 0 to 25.

  4. 04

    Let the column settle

When a chain goes, the balls around it shift and the column refills, and new chains form as everything comes to rest.

  5. 05

    Pick up the icon balls

Some balls show a clock with a plus sign or a dial with a padlock. They pop as part of a chain of their own colour like any other ball.

  6. 06

    Score before time runs out

Keep popping until the Time box reaches zero. Your best score is kept on the title screen for next time.

Controls

Sticky Balls is played with a single tap. On desktop, click a ball with the mouse; on a phone or tablet, touch it. There is no aiming, dragging or keyboard control. On the title screen, PLAY starts a run, the bar-chart button opens the leaderboard, the speaker button switches sound, and the flag changes language. A round red button with an arrow closes the leaderboard and takes you back to the title.

Objective

Score as many points as you can before the countdown ends. Longer chains are worth more: in our session short chains added 6 or 9 points each, while a longer green chain that included two icon balls added 25 in a single tap. The way to a good total in Sticky Balls is therefore to find the long chains quickly, not to tap whatever is nearest.

Game modes & features

There is one mode, a timed run. The play screen shows Score and Time. The title screen keeps a Best score and links to a leaderboard panel, which lists ranked entries, shows how many players are online and offers a button to transfer your progress to another device by copying a code to the clipboard. The column uses four colours, and some balls carry clock or padlock icons. The language can be changed from the title screen.

Why play Sticky Balls?

Play it when you want something fast. A run of Sticky Balls is over in the time it takes to boil a kettle, there is nothing to learn beyond tapping a chain, and the leaderboard gives you a reason to try again. It suits a phone held in one hand, and it is a good contrast to the slower, more deliberate bubble shooters in the same group.

03 โ€” Tips & strategy

Sticky Balls - Match 3 Bubble Shooter tips

Beginner

Read the sticks, not the colours

A patch of green is only a chain if sticks join it. Two greens that merely sit close together will not pop as one, so follow the sticks before you tap.

Take the long chain first

A chain of five is one tap and so is a chain of two. While the clock is running, the longer chain is always the better use of that tap.

Scan the whole column

The column is taller than it looks, and chains form at the top as often as at the bottom. Sweep your eyes up and down rather than staring at the middle.

Keep tapping

The countdown does not pause while you think. If you cannot see a long chain within a second, take a short one and let the board change.

Advanced

Pop to create, not just to score

Removing a short chain moves its neighbours. If a small pop looks likely to bring two groups of another colour together, take it first and see whether a longer chain forms for the next tap.

Include the icon balls

The clock-and-plus balls look like time bonuses. When one is part of a chain, pop that chain ahead of a plain one of similar length and watch what the Time box does.

Work one colour at a time

Clearing several chains of the same colour in a row changes the board less than jumping between colours, which makes the next chain easier to predict.

Chase your own best

The title screen stores your best score. Play three or four runs back to back; this is a game where the second run is nearly always better than the first.

04 โ€” Highlights

What makes Sticky Balls - Match 3 Bubble Shooter special

Sticky Balls has a genuinely clever visual idea. By drawing a stick between every pair of touching balls of the same colour, it shows you the chains instead of making you work them out, which turns the game into one of speed and choice. Finding the longest chain on a busy board in a second or two is more satisfying than it sounds.

The name is misleading, and it is worth saying so plainly: anyone expecting to aim and fire bubbles will not find a launcher here. What they will find is a neat, fast matching game with a countdown, a best score and an online leaderboard, which is a fair trade once you know what you are getting.

It rounds out the group of matching games on this site. Bubble Shooter POP, Bubble Shooter HD and Ball Burst are the ones to play if you do want to aim a shot and use the walls, the same skill the classic Brick Breaker on our home page asks for with a paddle. Sticky Balls is the quick one you play between them.

06 โ€” FAQ

Sticky Balls - Match 3 Bubble Shooter FAQ

QHow do you play Sticky Balls?

Press PLAY, then tap any ball that is joined to others of the same colour by sticks. The whole linked chain pops and adds to your score. Keep finding and tapping chains until the countdown in the Time box reaches zero.

QIs Sticky Balls really a bubble shooter?

Not in how it plays. The full title includes the words bubble shooter, but there is no launcher and you do not aim or fire anything. You tap chains of linked balls against a timer. It shares colour matching with bubble shooters and little else.

QWhat do the sticks mean in Sticky Balls?

A stick joins two neighbouring balls of the same colour. Balls connected by sticks form a chain, and tapping any ball in the chain removes all of them together. Balls of the same colour that are not linked by a stick will not pop as one.

QWhat are the balls with icons in Sticky Balls?

Some balls show a clock with a plus sign and others a dial with a padlock. They sit in the column like ordinary balls of their colour and pop with their chain. The game does not label them, so the clock icon suggesting extra time is our reading of the picture.

QHow long does a game of Sticky Balls last?

About a minute and a half in our session. The Time box was in the mid-nineties at our first screenshot and counted down from there; it read 84 roughly ten seconds of play later. The run ends when it reaches zero.

QDoes Sticky Balls have a leaderboard?

Yes. The bar-chart button on the title screen opens a leaderboard panel with ranked entries and a count of players online. The same panel has a button that copies a code to your clipboard so you can transfer progress to another device.

QIs Sticky Balls a portrait game?

Yes. It is built at 600ร—800, and the column of balls is a narrow strip five balls wide down the centre of the screen. That shape is designed for an upright phone and one thumb.

QWhat games are similar to Sticky Balls?

For matching with real aiming, try Bubble Shooter POP, Bubble Shooter HD or Ball Burst. Bubble Shooter Blast Master is a level-based shooter that counts your shots. All four are slower and more deliberate than Sticky Balls.
