What is Bubble Shooter HD?
Bubble Shooter HD is a free browser puzzle game in which you fire coloured bubbles up into a cluster hanging from the top of the screen, pop any group of matching colour that your bubble joins, and clear the whole cluster to finish the level. It is the traditional form of the bubble shooter, played level by level, with nothing between you and the board.
The game explains itself in one sentence. When the first level opens, a speech bubble drifts across the screen with the full rulebook: destroy all the coloured bubbles from the level, launching a bubble on groups of the same colour. Tap it away and the board is yours โ five rows of green, white, red and blue bubbles inside a blue frame, with your first shot waiting at the bottom.
The interface is as spare as the rules. The top bar shows the level number and a NEXT indicator with the colour of the bubble you will be given after this one. The bottom bar shows the score. A speaker button sits in one top corner and a close button in the other. Bubble Shooter HD has no aiming line and no power-ups; you point, you shoot, and you learn the angles by using them.
It has been in the GamePix catalogue since 2015, making it one of the longest-serving games on this site, and it is built for a 600ร800 portrait screen. The underwater look has aged well, and the game underneath it is the same one people were playing in arcades twenty years earlier.
How to play Bubble Shooter HD
- 01
Press PLAY
The title screen has two buttons, PLAY and CREDITS. PLAY opens level 1 and shows the one-sentence instruction bubble; click or tap to dismiss it.
- 02
Check the loaded bubble
The bubble you are about to fire sits at the bottom centre of the frame. Its colour decides which groups in the cluster are worth aiming at.
- 03
Click where you want it to go
Click or tap a spot on the board and the bubble travels there in a straight line, sticking to the first bubble it touches.
- 04
Land on a matching group
If your bubble joins a group of its own colour, that group is destroyed. By the usual rule of the genre, anything left with no link to the top goes with it.
- 05
Read the NEXT indicator
The top bar shows the colour of the following bubble. Use it to decide whether this shot should clear something now or set up the next one.
- 06
Empty the level
Keep firing until every coloured bubble is gone. The level counter in the top bar then moves on and a new cluster appears.
Controls
Bubble Shooter HD is played with a single click. On desktop, move the mouse to the point you want to hit and click to fire; on a phone or tablet, tap that point. There is no keyboard control and no dragging. The speaker button in the top-left corner switches the sound on and off, and the cross in the top-right corner leaves the level. On the title screen, PLAY starts the game and CREDITS shows who made it.
Objective
Clear every bubble from the level. The instruction bubble puts it plainly: destroy all the coloured bubbles by launching a bubble on groups of the same colour. Your score, shown at the bottom of the frame, rises as groups are destroyed. The efficient way to play Bubble Shooter HD is to spend each shot where it removes the most bubbles, which usually means going after the groups that others are hanging from.
Game modes & features
The game is a sequence of levels, beginning with Level 1. The first board uses four colours โ green, white, red and blue โ arranged in five rows with gaps in the lower ones. The heads-up display shows LEVEL, NEXT and SCORE. There is one mode and no settings beyond the sound toggle. The catalogue listing describes escalating difficulty as you progress through the levels.
Why play Bubble Shooter HD?
Play it if you want the bubble shooter as it was first designed. Newer versions add aiming guides, boosters, timers and maps; Bubble Shooter HD leaves all of that out, which makes each shot a small test of judgement. It is also a calm game. Nothing on screen is counting down, so you can take as long as you like over an awkward angle.
Bubble Shooter HD tips
Match the loaded colour first
Look at the bubble waiting at the bottom, then find the largest group of that colour you can reach. Firing at a colour that does not match only adds to the cluster.
Use the gaps
The lower rows of the first board have gaps in them. A shot through a gap reaches the row behind, which is often where the bigger groups are.
Plan with NEXT
The top bar tells you the next colour. If this bubble has no good target, put it somewhere it will be useful for the one that follows.
Aim at the near edge of a group
Your bubble stops at the first thing it touches. Click on the part of the group that faces the launcher, not the far side, or a bubble in between will catch it.
Take out the top of a column
The rule this genre is built on is that bubbles cut off from the ceiling fall without needing a match. Go for a small group high up and see how much of the mass beneath it comes down with it.
Bank off the side of the frame
Bubble shooters let a shot rebound off the side walls. Aim at the wall at the height where the mirrored path would meet your target to get behind the front row.
Avoid stranding single bubbles
A lone bubble of a colour you do not currently hold takes a precise shot to remove later. When you have a choice, leave colours in pairs so that one more bubble finishes them.
Work from the side with fewer bubbles
Clearing one flank gives you open wall to bounce shots off and a route to the rows above. Finishing one side completely is usually faster than chipping at both.
What makes Bubble Shooter HD special
Bubble Shooter HD is a reminder of how little this format needs. One sentence of instruction, one click to fire and four colours are enough to produce a puzzle that stays interesting, because each shot changes the shape of what is left and the best target is rarely the nearest one.
The lack of an aiming line is a feature, not an omission. Without a guide, judging where a shot will land is a skill you build over a few levels, and a successful bank shot feels earned. Players who have only used versions with a dotted path may be surprised how much more attention Bubble Shooter HD asks for.
It earns its place next to the brick breakers here because the two genres train the same eye for angles. On the classic Brick Breaker on our home page you return a ball into a wall of bricks; in Bubble Shooter HD you send bubbles up into a ceiling of them. If you would like the guide back, Bubble Shooter POP draws the full path of every shot, and Bubble Shooter Blast Master adds a shot counter and a clock.

Bubble Shooter HD FAQ
QHow do you shoot in Bubble Shooter HD?
Click or tap the spot on the board you want to hit. The bubble loaded at the bottom centre of the frame travels in a straight line to that point and sticks to the first bubble it touches. There is no aiming line and nothing to drag.
QWhat does NEXT mean in Bubble Shooter HD?
It shows the colour of the bubble you will receive after the one currently loaded. The indicator sits in the top bar beside the level number. Checking it before each shot lets you decide whether to clear a group now or prepare one for the next bubble.
QWhen was Bubble Shooter HD released?
It was published to the GamePix catalogue in 2015, which makes it one of the oldest games on this site. It is an HTML5 game built for a portrait screen and runs in the browser on both desktop and mobile devices.
QHow many colours are there in Bubble Shooter HD?
The first level uses four: green, white, red and blue. They are arranged in five rows at the top of the frame, with gaps in the lower rows. The catalogue listing describes the difficulty rising in later levels.
QHow do you clear a level in Bubble Shooter HD?
Destroy every coloured bubble on the board. Fire each bubble at a group of its own colour to remove that group, and favour groups near the top, since clearing a support is the quickest way to bring down what hangs beneath it. The level counter advances when the board is empty.
QIs Bubble Shooter HD the same as Puzzle Bobble?
No. Puzzle Bobble is the Taito arcade game from June 1994, also known as Bust-A-Move, that created this style of play. Bubble Shooter HD is an independent browser game that uses the same aim, fire and match rules without the characters or the arcade timer.
QIs Bubble Shooter HD a portrait game?
Yes. It is built at 600ร800, taller than it is wide, with the cluster at the top and the launcher at the bottom. It fits a phone held upright, and on a desktop the board sits centred in the player.
QWhat games are similar to Bubble Shooter HD?
Bubble Shooter POP adds an aiming line, multipliers and a hard mode. Bubble Shooter Blast Master counts your shots against a clock, and Ball Burst offers seven hand-designed layouts. Sticky Balls is a quicker tap-to-pop game played against a countdown.
