01 โ€” Overview

What is Blocks Puzzle?

Blocks Puzzle is a free browser block game in which you drag shapes from a three-slot tray onto a pale grid, fill rows to clear them, and build the highest score you can while a fifteen-minute countdown ticks down.

The title screen of Blocks Puzzle is clean and bright: the name in heavy navy capitals on a striped white band, a large round play button, and a smaller podium icon beside it that looks like a route to a leaderboard. We did not open that icon, so we cannot say what it shows.

Press play and the game goes straight to the board. A strip along the top reads BEST, TIME and SCORE, with home and sound buttons above it, and below the board three white boxes each hold one piece. The shapes are a familiar set โ€” T, S and L pieces and straight bars of two, three and four cells โ€” in cyan, green, orange and blue.

The clock is what makes Blocks Puzzle different. TIME starts at 15:00 and counts down while you play; in our session it went from 14:58 to 14:27 in about half a minute of placing pieces. The game was added to the GamePix catalogue in December 2022 and is built for a portrait screen.

02 โ€” How to play

How to play Blocks Puzzle

  1. 01

    Press the play button

Click or tap the large round button on the Blocks Puzzle title screen. The board, the HUD strip and the three-piece tray appear together, and the clock starts running.

  2. 02

    Check the clock

TIME in the top strip begins at fifteen minutes. Glance at it now and then, because the whole round is measured against it.

  3. 03

Choose a piece from the tray

Each of the three white boxes in Blocks Puzzle holds one shape. Pick the one that suits the board right now, not simply the one on the left.

  4. 04

    Drag it onto the grid

Hold the piece, move it over the pale cells and release. It settles where it fits, and its box stays empty; in our session the tray refilled once all three were used.

  5. 05

Fill a row to clear it

A complete row is what empties space and, according to the GamePix listing, what earns points. In our session six placements without a clear left SCORE at 0.

  6. 06

    Keep the board open

Clear lines steadily so the next three shapes always have somewhere to go, and use the time remaining in Blocks Puzzle to push BEST higher.

Controls

Blocks Puzzle is a drag-and-drop game, so one hand on the mouse is all it needs. Press on a piece in the tray, carry it over the board and let go; the shape settles onto the cells beneath it. The home button returns you to the title screen and the sound button mutes the effects. There are no keyboard controls to learn, and the portrait layout should suit a finger on a touch screen as well, although we played it with a mouse.

Objective

Score as many points as you can before the fifteen-minute clock runs down. Points come from clearing lines rather than from placing shapes: our first six pieces landed without moving SCORE from 0. BEST keeps your top result for comparison. We did not play the clock to zero, so we cannot describe what Blocks Puzzle does when TIME reaches 0:00.

Game modes & features

We found one way to play Blocks Puzzle: press play and the timed board begins. The tray always shows three boxes, and a box stays empty once its piece is used, so you can see exactly what is left to place. Pieces come in several shapes and colours โ€” T, S, L, and bars of two to four cells โ€” and there is no rotation button on screen, so each piece goes down as it is dealt. The podium icon on the title screen may lead to a leaderboard; we did not test it.

Why play Blocks Puzzle?

Play Blocks Puzzle when you want a block game with a finish line. Most grid puzzles run until you jam the board, which can mean a quick loss or an endless session; a fifteen-minute clock gives each round a fixed shape. The white board and bold colours are easy on the eyes, and the HUD tells you everything at once โ€” best result, time left and current score.

03 โ€” Tips & strategy

Blocks Puzzle tips

Beginner

Clear before you tidy

Points arrive only when a line clears, so finishing one row is worth more than placing three pieces neatly. Work towards a full row from the first move of Blocks Puzzle.

Use the bars on long gaps

The straight pieces of three and four cells are the quickest way to finish a row. Save them for gaps of the right length instead of dropping them anywhere.

Keep S pieces against a wall

S and T shapes leave awkward notches. Place them against an edge of the grid, where one side of the notch is already closed off.

Watch the empty boxes

In our session the tray refilled only after all three boxes were empty. Before your third placement, check that it leaves the board ready for a fresh set.

Advanced

Build two rows in parallel

Keep two neighbouring rows nearly full at the same time. When one closes, the other is usually a single piece from closing too, so clears come in quick pairs.

Spend thinking time early

Fifteen minutes allows careful play on the first boards and much less near the end. Make the slow, considered decisions early and speed up as TIME runs low.

Leave a channel open

Keep one column near the side mostly empty. It gives the long bars a home and stops the board locking up when an awkward shape arrives.

Place the least flexible piece first

The order matters more than the pieces. Put down the shape with the fewest legal spots first, then the more flexible ones, so none of the three is stranded.

04 โ€” Highlights

What makes Blocks Puzzle special

Blocks Puzzle earns its place through clarity. The pale grid, the bold coloured shapes and a HUD with just three readings make it one of the easiest block games on the site to pick up โ€” you understand the whole screen in a second.

The countdown is its defining feature. Fifteen minutes is long enough for several boards and short enough to give the session an end, which suits a break between other things. It also changes how you play, because hesitation now costs time as well as space.

Next to TenTrix Blast and its four modes, Blocks Puzzle is the stripped-down option, and it pairs well with 8x8 Block Puzzle, which also puts a timer on screen. Players coming from Block Breaker on this site will recognise the satisfaction of a row vanishing, only here you build each row yourself before it goes.

06 โ€” FAQ

Blocks Puzzle FAQ

QHow long is a round of Blocks Puzzle?

The TIME counter starts at 15:00 and counts down while you play. In our session it fell from 14:58 to 14:27 in about thirty seconds. We did not let it reach zero, so we cannot say exactly what Blocks Puzzle does at 0:00.

QDo you score points for placing pieces in Blocks Puzzle?

Not in our experience. We placed six pieces on a fresh board and SCORE stayed at 0. The GamePix catalogue listing says you clear lines to score points, so completed rows are what move the counter, while BEST keeps your top result.

QWhat shapes appear in Blocks Puzzle?

We saw T, S and L shapes and straight bars of two, three and four cells, in cyan, green, orange and blue. Three are dealt at a time, one per white box below the board, and we found no button for rotating them.

QHow do you play Blocks Puzzle?

Press play, drag one of the three pieces from the tray onto the grid and release it where it fits. Complete rows to clear them and make space, keep an eye on the countdown, and try to beat the BEST figure before time runs out.

QHow do you get a high score in Blocks Puzzle?

Clear lines early and often, because placements alone do not score. Keep two neighbouring rows close to full, save long bars for long gaps, and play more quickly in the final minutes, when the clock matters more than perfect placement.

QIs Blocks Puzzle the same as Blockudoku?

No. Blocks Puzzle is an independent browser game. Easybrain's Blockudoku, released in 2019, combines block placement with sudoku; Blocks Puzzle has a plain grid, a three-piece tray and a fifteen-minute countdown, and it runs in the browser without an install.

QCan you play Blocks Puzzle on a phone?

The design suggests yes: a portrait layout, large tray boxes and a single drag gesture for every move. We tested Blocks Puzzle in a desktop browser with a mouse rather than on a phone, though, so treat touch performance as likely rather than confirmed.

QWhat games are similar to Blocks Puzzle?

TenTrix Blast and Color Blocks use the same drag-and-place idea without a round clock. 8x8 Block Puzzle has a shrinking timer bar, and Wood Block Puzzle offers a Time mode among its four, so both suit players who like the pressure of a countdown.

Ready to play Blocks Puzzle?

Press play, race the fifteen-minute clock and clear as many rows as you can in Blocks Puzzle.
