01 โ€” Overview

What is Jewel Blocks Quest?

Jewel Blocks Quest is a free browser block puzzle in which you slide gem-cut shapes into a grid, complete rows or columns to remove them, and earn back an undo every ten successful moves, all in a torch-lit temple.

Jewel Blocks Quest explains itself in one card. Its INSTRUCTION panel reads, word for word: 'Slide the block shapes into the grid and create rows or columns to remove them. After 10 successful moves, your undo feature charges up.' That second sentence is the detail that sets the game apart, because it gives you a way back from a bad placement.

The title screen spells Jewel Blocks Quest in carved lettering, with QUEST picked out in five coloured jewels, a large purple play button, and three small buttons for sound, information and music. In play, the HUD shows a trophy with your score, a BEST readout, the undo button with a small counter showing 10, and a pause button.

Our first board was a tutorial: a column of grey stone blocks with a gap in it, a pointing hand, and three pieces waiting below โ€” a purple domino, a gold two-by-two square and a red bar of three. Jewel Blocks Quest has been in the GamePix catalogue since November 2021 and is designed for portrait screens.

02 โ€” How to play

How to play Jewel Blocks Quest

  1. 01

    Press the purple play button

Start from the Jewel Blocks Quest title screen. In our session the INSTRUCTION card appeared next; read its two sentences and close it with the purple X.

  2. 02

    Follow the tutorial hand

The first board shows a column of grey stone blocks with a gap and a hand pointing at it. It is set up to show how a completed line is removed.

  3. 03

Slide a shape into the grid

Drag one of the three pieces from below the board and release it over empty cells. The tutorial tray held a purple 1ร—2, a gold 2ร—2 and a red 1ร—3.

  4. 04

    Complete rows or columns

A full row or a full column is removed, as the instruction card says. Both directions count, so look at the board both ways before every move.

  5. 05

    Bank an undo

After ten successful moves the undo feature charges up. Use it to take back a placement that leaves a hole you cannot fill.

  6. 06

    Chase your best score

Keep removing lines and keep space open for the next set of pieces. The BEST readout at the top of Jewel Blocks Quest records the score to aim at next time.

Controls

Jewel Blocks Quest uses one gesture: drag. Press on a gem shape beneath the board, slide it into the grid and let go over the cells you want. The undo button in the HUD takes back a move once it has charged, the pause button stops play, and the title screen has separate buttons for sound, music and the information card. We played with a mouse in a desktop browser; the portrait layout should suit a finger too, but that was not tested.

Objective

Remove as many rows and columns as you can and push your Jewel Blocks Quest score past BEST. The instruction card makes the rule explicit, and the HUD tracks the score beside a trophy. We did not get beyond the tutorial board in our session, so we cannot say how points are counted or what ends a game; the GamePix catalogue listing describes the game as having infinite levels and aiming at a new personal record.

Game modes & features

We saw a single path into Jewel Blocks Quest, through the purple play button and a tutorial board. The feature that matters is the undo: a button in the HUD with a small counter beside it, which read 10 when we started, and which the instruction card says charges up after ten successful moves. Pieces are cut like gems, stone blocks sit on the board, and flaming torches frame the temple backdrop. We did not see a level counter.

Why play Jewel Blocks Quest?

Play Jewel Blocks Quest if you like grid puzzles but hate losing a long run to one careless drop. The charging undo is a genuine safety net, and it rewards steady play, since you earn it by making good moves. The temple setting, with torches burning either side of the board, is also one of the more atmospheric looks among this site's block games.

03 โ€” Tips & strategy

Jewel Blocks Quest tips

Beginner

Read the board both ways

Jewel Blocks Quest removes columns as well as rows. A vertical gap is just as valuable as a horizontal one, so check both before you drop a piece.

Save the undo for real mistakes

The undo charges only after ten successful moves. Spend it on a placement that traps a hole, not on a move that is merely untidy.

Put the square somewhere roomy

Two-by-two squares need a clear patch of four cells. Place them early, while open space is easy to find.

Finish the tutorial properly

The first board shows a column with a single gap. Fill it as the hand suggests and you will see the removal rule at work before the real game begins.

Advanced

Earn undos steadily

Because the undo in Jewel Blocks Quest recharges after ten good moves, a run of safe, ordinary placements is worth more than one risky move. Build the charge before you attempt anything ambitious.

Cross a row and a column

A piece that completes a row and a column at the same time removes both. Set up an L-shaped arrangement of near-complete lines and finish them together.

Keep a long lane open

Red three-cell bars need a straight run of empty cells. Keeping one edge row or column clear gives them a guaranteed home.

Plan the whole tray

Before placing the first of the three pieces, make sure the other two will still fit afterwards. A tray that cannot be emptied is how most grid-puzzle runs end.

04 โ€” Highlights

What makes Jewel Blocks Quest special

The undo is the headline. Many block puzzles punish one bad drop for the rest of a run; Jewel Blocks Quest lets you take a move back once you have earned it with ten good ones, which keeps long sessions from ending on a misclick.

The presentation is the other draw. Gem-cut pieces, grey stone blocks and flaming torches against a dark temple wall give Jewel Blocks Quest a treasure-hunt mood that suits its name, while the board itself stays readable.

Among the block puzzles on this site, Jewel Blocks Quest sits between the bright, minimal Color Blocks and the multi-mode TenTrix Blast. Players who arrive from Block Breaker will find the reverse of that game's job: rather than smashing a wall of bricks, you lay the stones yourself and watch complete lines vanish.

06 โ€” FAQ

Jewel Blocks Quest FAQ

QWhat does the undo do in Jewel Blocks Quest?

It takes back a move. According to the game's own instruction card, the undo feature charges up after 10 successful moves, and the HUD shows it as a button with a small counter beside it, which read 10 when we began. Use it to rescue a placement that left an unfillable hole.

QDoes Jewel Blocks Quest clear rows and columns?

Yes, both. The instruction card says to slide the block shapes into the grid and create rows or columns to remove them. A completed line in either direction disappears, so vertical gaps matter as much as horizontal ones.

QWhat pieces appear in Jewel Blocks Quest?

Gem-cut shapes in several colours. The tutorial tray we saw held a purple two-cell piece, a gold two-by-two square and a red three-cell bar, with grey stone blocks already sitting on the board. Three pieces are offered at a time beneath the grid.

QHow do you play Jewel Blocks Quest?

Press play, close the instruction card, and drag pieces from below the board into the grid. Complete rows or columns to remove them, keep room for the next three shapes, and use the undo once it has charged after ten successful moves.

QHow do you score more in Jewel Blocks Quest?

Complete lines in both directions, aim for placements that finish a row and a column together, and keep one straight lane open for the long bars. Bank the undo rather than spending it on small errors, and each run will last longer.

QIs Jewel Blocks Quest the same as Block Blast?

No. Jewel Blocks Quest is an independent browser game that was in the GamePix catalogue by November 2021, before Hungry Studio released Block Blast! on iOS in April 2022. Both use drag-and-place line clearing; this one adds a gem theme and a recharging undo.

QCan you play Jewel Blocks Quest on a phone?

Its portrait layout and drag controls are made for a touch screen, so it should play well on a phone. We tested Jewel Blocks Quest in a desktop browser with a mouse rather than on a mobile device, so we have not confirmed how it handles touch.

QWhat games are similar to Jewel Blocks Quest?

Color Blocks and Block Crush Challenge use the same drag-and-place line clearing on eight-by-eight boards. TenTrix Blast offers four modes on a ten-by-ten grid, and Wood Block Puzzle swaps the jewels for a wooden board and a choice of modes.
